I actually found 2025 to be an amazing year for cinema, especially at the multiplex. Maybe part of this is seeing more movies theatrically, but my top 50 was absolutely packed to the point where I couldn’t watch any more releases in fear of kicking stuff off lol.
Do u have one of those Movie Theater subscriptions? In which u can see as many movies as u like for a set monthly fee? Those u look like fun for avid movie theater goers. I prefer my couch most of the time, but me & my kids still hit the theater once or twice of month for the full-on theater experience.

I’ve used AMC A-List pretty obsessively (albeit intermittently depending on finances) since it was first introduced in 2018 or 2019, and before that I was already seeing triple features every week in college. And now that I’m an Actual Practicing Filmmaker, going to screenings around the Chicago film scene is a big part of how I network. I also love watching things on my projector at home, but normally if I’m gonna spend money, I’m gonna try to have a communal experience to get my money’s worth, especially since socializing is so much harder since the pandemic started.
This is the first time since 2020 that I've considered perhaps trimming our typical annual 50-count list down to a smaller number like 30 or 40 (meaning, submission entries would be trimmed to that number as well)— I'll most likely talk myself out of it, I'm a sucker for uniformity— but I'm wondering if there's any likemindedness on this possibility?—
Perhaps I'm being blind, but I feel like the expectation for individuals to whip up a solid 50-entry personal list is unlikely when looking at the playing field. If BEA disagrees, of course we'll go ahead with a top 50, as usual, but if there's any interest in cutting the list down to a tighter 30 or 40, please let me know.
The Movies Forum regulars know I've been in favor for trimming it for a long time. Trim it to 25, I say.
25 or 30 would certainly make tallying easier 🤐 ...

I like seeing longer lists, but there's no way my 2025 list will be more than 25 entries. I doubt I even hit that many. I forget how long I've participated in the annual film tournys, but from 2020 to 2024 my letterboxd lists were 15, 28, 45, 34, and 15 films long. Currently I have only 10 films logged but intend to watch 5-15 more. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

I'd like the list to be 50— more to explore— and typically it's the lower half that has the gems— but I'm don't think my personal list will be more than 35-40, and I'm not convinced a lot of submissions would be the full 50. There could even be more participation if a lower count was 'expected' and slightly less intimidating (I've always accepted lists of any count, but)—
