It's A Wonderful Life by Sparklehorse

Chart: Sadcore Serenade by Saoirse
Rank on User's Chart: 3
Year: 2001
Rank on BEA Overall: 1,826
Average Rating: 77/100
Summary Info: The third album by Virginia-based indie rock band, Sparklehorse. Unlike on his first two albums, here Mark Linkous enlists the help of a number of other musicians, including PJ Harvey and Tom Waits. The decidedly somber tone of his music may have been influenced by a lifetime of battling depression, as well as a near-fatal drug overdose in 1996.

Details on the implementation and chart selection process of "User Pick of the Day" can be found here and here, respectively. A chart documenting the previous picks can be found here.

Oh, I've listened to Vivathingy today! Not for the first time, but I'm not too familiar with it yet either. That record is truly astounding, one of the best I've recently discovered. He seems to only have three albums, so I wanted to go through them chronologically, which means this one will be the last. Excited to reach it though, Sparklehorse really seems to be a wonderful artist.

"Keep all your crows away
Hold skinny wolves at bay
In silver piles of smiles
May all your days be gold my child
"

"Gold Day" is perfection. The rest of the record is very good too.

A sad and beautiful album. Evocative and emotional lyrics. A long lasting favorite.
