One of my favs
I actually prefer this to any Smiths album, it's more straightforward. A solid collection of sentimental ballads

My favourite Morrissey body of work is his singles span 88-90, as illustrated in Bona Drag. This is the next best though, Morrissey managed to keep his band tight and subtle, and without the rockabilly bravado or adult-rockish tepidness of some of his other solo albums (think 1997-2014).

Oui, c'est vrai. With Your Arsenal not far behind, although I personally have a bit of a soft spot for Southpaw Grammar too...

1. Viva Hate ( Sweepingly romantic, teenage bedroom pop at its best!)
2. Your Arsenal (Morrissey's solo artist years at their most dangerous & urgent)
3. Bona Drag ( Singles Going Steady - Can't imagine college radio without them)

-----------------------------------------
4. Vauxhall & I ( Where I started to lose interest, started to drift into Adult Contemporary here imo)
5. Southpaw Grammer

Really haven't given anything else a fair shake, including Kill Uncle.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with others that Morrissey's best solo period came immediately post-Smiths, and that of the rest this is his best effort. It's focused, full of catchy pop songs, and largely pretty tasteful production-wise. Still, it does have a few overly melodramatic moments, and it isn't perfect, but as a teen it was the first Morrissey solo album I heard, and I've always liked it. 'Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself?' is one of my favourite Moz songs, solo or otherwise.
