We're coming down to the end now. Two matches, the winners will meet up in the finals. The losers will meet up in a 3rd place battle. A week from now, we will know what the best album of 1974 is.
No introduction needed. You know these albums by now...
Would love to see a Veedon Fleece vs. Rock Bottom final, although I imagine Neil Young will win this one pretty comfortably. I have no intention of putting down On the Beach, it's a fantastic record, easily top five in Young's catalogue, but it just can't hold a candle to what is, in my opinion, Van's best record. I wrote some pretentious shit about it in the last matchup, so if you actually care what I think you can go check it out there. But yeah, Veedon Fleece for me, easily. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
The guy who wrote 'Brown Eyed Girl' and Neil Young. I can' think of many Neil Young albums I have liked. Even if Brown Eyed Girl is not on Veedon Fleece I'm going to have to vote the Van anyway because hey, the song is great!
I must have been using the same coin. this is like picking what's better between a fine wine and top shelf bourbon. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
If the entirety of Veedon Fleece had been composed of songs like Fair Play, Streets of Arklow, and especially You don't Pull No Punches, hot damn if I wouldn't have voted for Van here. And, I'm a HUGE Neil Young fanboy. But, Side 2 just doesn't have the same emotional wallop as side 1 to me. From the new agey Country Fair to the white boy soul of Comfort You, and especially the over-the-top vocal acrobatics of Cul De Sac, side 2 just doesn't destroy me like side 1 does. Granted that's a huge request. Side 1's a beast.
