Duane is the third of my three nominations. He was a master at the slide, but he wasn't just a jam guitarist with the Allman Brothers Band. He was also utilized on session recordings by Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Herbie Mann, Boz Scaggs...the man was in high demand. Not to mention that Clapton thought enough of him to try and make him a permanent member of Derek & The Dominos. His playing is legendary: anything from the early Allman Brothers catalog should be convincing enough.
Duane is my pick to win it all, but that's just me....
But, there's also this...the production is poor, but Duane's solo at the end is pure mastery:
