Kristian is really a fabulous guitarist. Especially love his fingerpicking and his little nods to old blues and folk music.

Criminals by Tallest Man On Earth

And here is another really beautiful example of how nimble an creative his guitar is.

Drying Of The Lawns by Tallest Man On Earth

And also he is really cool at doing creative chords and alternate tunings. Some of his beat songs have a distinct strident foot tapping rhythmic sound in his guitar that is really cool. Great examples of that are "King Of Spain" and "The Gardener" but especially I love this and want to share it.

Leading Me Now by Tallest Man On Earth

Anyway, yeah the Slowdive dude is amazing too. But there's some tracks to hear.

If Kristian Matsson gets further in this tournament than Nick Drake, this site has lost its marbles. Also, even though I can take or leave a lot of Slowdive's music, I do appreciate that Halstead's guitar work, particularly that otherworldly tone he employs at times, can be divine. Easy vote to Halstead here.

Replace all that stuff about giving or taking Slowdive with Slowdive are fucking fantastic and so is Neil Halstead and that's basically how I feel.

Kristian Mattson is a very pretty guitarist and his fingerpicking is impressive, but Neil Halstead's guitar is in another league. I told myself I wouldn't give shoegaze artists the point here, because of their heavy use of effects and pedals to get the sound they want, but fuck it, they made the art of performing an instrument much more ethereal and engaging. My vote goes to Neil.

I can agree or at least understand this sentiment. But I could say the same for Neil H. and many other guitarists in this tourney. It really comes down to the luck of the draw.

I really like the finger picking of Tallest Man, but it's not enough to beat out Halstead's wider range of magic.

On top of Slowdive and Mojave 3, his solo work is great too
