I have zero interest in any of them. The first Avengers movie was a self-satisfied, focus group-tested piece of shit. I think it was so focus group-tested that it became impossible not to appreciate at least some aspect of it, and as such it just came across as sterile and totally vacuous, attempting to be so universal that it left me cold. There was no sort of personal or distinctive vision for the movie, nothing that could possibly be offensive to the audience, which is offensive in itself. I doubt any of these movies will rectify this problem, though I'd love to be proved wrong.

EDIT: inb4 "you just described Beyoncรฉ's last album"

Yeah, I basically agree with Skinny. The whole Marvel movie factory thing has become this whole homogenized, overly commericial cash cow without any real creative vision. I think I saw Frogger talking about it on facebook the other day, saying all those movies have been directed by different people but you'd never be able to tell, and I agree with that. They've got this bland formula that's safe and easy and completely uninteresting. And I did actually have a bit of fun with the first Avengers movie the first time (can't get into it now), but I have absolutely no interest in the rest. I don't go to the movies much these days anyways, so if I was going to, it certainly wouldn't be for these. What it would be for, however, is Inherent Vice.

Hard to say which I'm most excited for. This particular genre has always been extremely hit-or-miss and the previews never give you a terribly good idea of how good it will be. Every one of them could be sweet or suck total ass, and I've yet to find a system of gauging which it will be without just going and seeing it. So I'll probably just see all of them.

I suppose I'm most excited for Doctor Strange, though.

I can certainly get behind what Skinny and Silver are saying, though. I'm a lot less picky with movies than I am with music, so I can still enjoy a lot of these types of films though I would never name any of them among my favorites. For example, I really enjoyed The Avengers for the cool action sequences and witty dialogue, but under no circumstances would I sit down and watch it without some friends to watch it with and a shit ton of alcohol.

Not to say that superhero movies can't be brilliant and among the greatest movies of all time. The Dark Knight, for instance, still stands as one of my all-time favs.

Wow, I like how they know which movies to make and when for so long! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ It's amazing how much planning goes into these things.

I think they are up the top with the Transformers films at moment. Lots of people will go see them ๐Ÿ˜„

I'm excited for Captain 3. Did I like Captain 1 and 2? Meh. Not the strongest. So why am I excited? The civil war timeline is fascinating to me. There's no correct side. There's no clear protagonist, there's no clear antagonist. If they can keep that element, I'm excited.

That being said, WAY more excited for Black Panther. Boseman's a great actor, he gets so into his roles. I have no idea how they'll be able to pull off a full Black Panther movie, which is part of why I'm so interested. No clue if they'll modernize the character or keep him in the original plot or what. Really, really stoked for that.

Things I'm not a fan of are that Captain Marvel gets a movie (ew), that Black Panter will be Storm-less because of copyright, that they keep picking franchises with X-Men connections that'll cause problems, that Hulk doesn't get a good solo movie, that they're even trying another solo Thor (ew), and that they're trying to make 4th movies for Iron Man and Avengers. No. It's hard to make a good trilogy, but I can't think of a single movie series that did more than 3 movies well (except MAYBE Harry Potter btu I've yet to see either part 7)

At this point I can't really tell any of these movies apart anymore. The difference only seems to be in the details. How about a modern movie without caped heroes and villains but mortal people fighting over more realistic conflicts? Where have those movies gone?

To be fair, there's tons of movies portraying realistic conflicts/struggles. They never make the big bucks, but they're there. Look no further than movies such as Nebraska or A Teacher. If you're talking about real people actually fighting over something meaningful, then maybe Snowpiercer.

But I agree with the overall sentiment that there's just too many of these superhero movies right now, and they seem to lack their own personalities. They're a guilty pleasure for me, when I just wanna veg out. But they're all far too slick and too focused on the action vs story. Still better than transformers though.

As a massive nerd, Marvel in particular, I genuinely haven't been this excited about movies in a long time.

Voted Infinity War. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
