What artist causes besteveralbums.com to recommend Arcade Fire, Kanye West, and the Arctic Monkeys?


If you guessed "Vampire Weekend", you're right! If you didn't, like I didn't, you're probably confused.

Could someone explain to me how the system works and why such a strange connection was drawn there?

Pretty sure it just suggest artists that the same people put on their charts. So in this case, Vampire Weekend shares the most charts with Arctic Monkeys, Yeezy, and Arcade Fire. If I had to guess I'd say this is because Yeezus, AM, Reflektor, and MVOTC are on a lot of 2013 charts together, not to mention decade charts.

It's not perfect, but I can't think of another way to link artists together short of manually adding similar artists for every artist, which sounds hard.

Actually I think it's predicated on who has added the album to their favorites. I've noticed for albums where I am the only one to have added it as a favorite, it recommends a seemingly arbitrary selection of albums that are also among my favorites

My bad, you learn something new every day. Either way it's based off of what people enjoy and not what the artists actually sound like. Which would be a cool feature, but as I said I think it would require a lot of work.
