So does anyone have any year (or years) that they've not got too many faves from - and maybe BEA can help?
At the mo am looking to find a few more good albums from 1989 - 'Doolittle' and 'The Stone Roses' are both in my overall top 100 but don't have too many more that I'm that big a fan of... liking one called 'Paradise' by Inner City lately and have been meaning to check out Soul II Soul's album...
I can't think of any specific years I identify as weak, but 1989 has two of my top three albums of the 80s and my second favorite album of all time, so I like it a lot.

If you are a fan of '80s alternative, then Disintegration should be right up your alley. But you've probably already listened to it. Other than that, the only other thing that immediately comes to mind is Aerosmith's Pump. Not everyone's cup of tea, though.
1974 and 2009 are weak years for me. 1974 because I simply haven't heard too much from that year (always taking suggestions though). It just seems like the bands I really dig from that era didn't release anything that year.
2009 was just disappointing to me because so many bands I follow released material that year I simply didn't like...Weezer, Foo Fighters, DMB, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Green Day. Of course, they're all '90s bands past their prime. But I listened to albums by newer bands as well. I listened to the '09 albums from Mumford, Phoenix, and Silversun Pickups. I tried, but couldn't get into any of them. The only albums I can think from that year I like are The Resistance and Horehound.

Yeah, 1974 wasn't a great year for the kind of rock you're into. Still, it might be worth giving these a try:
There a lot more classics from that year, in case you're feeling more adventurous (krautrock, funk, reggae, etc.), but the ones above are what seemed like the closest to your current tastes. There should also be a lot of 1974 charts among the forum regulars because we recently held a tournament for that year.
