Personally, I'm not sure that actual instruments will be used in popular music anymore. _________________ .

P2P downloading will become so popular that itunes will go under, and cd's won't be sold. Leaving artists with a $0 profit. And no more music will be made.
Concerts will be where it's at in terms of money, no one will selling albums.
Considering that this decade the original artists of the 50's will die or retire, I assume that the same will be happening for the artists of the 70's.
If downloading is clamped down on however, then things like spotify will be the norm, where you pay to listen and for every play of a song the band gets some money.
Traditional instruments will still be used but probably not in pop music.
I definitely think people will still be playing real instruments. Things haven't changed that much in the last 20 or so years. A lot of the popular more mainstream rock bands still sound quite a bit like grunge. A lot of indie stuff sounds a hell of a lot like new wave. Mainstream country and contemporary Christian sound EXACTLY the same.
In terms of instruments versus electronics there will always be purists who prefer real instruments, and there will always be good old fashioned blues based rock bands.
20 years is a long time though, it took the British invasion like 3 years to completely change the face of pop music, so who knows what might come out of nowhere and change things over that span. If I had to guess I can see pop music being pretty heavily influenced by bands like Animal collective, lots of layers of electronic sounds. As pop music becomes more and more condensed, and just generally loud, seems like a natural progression to me to try and cram more and more into a track and get it as loud as possible. I don't see this as a good thing but it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Looking further in the future, in the year 2525 the further homogenization of cultures will result in one "master race" of music, a bland yellowish soup of all the worlds once unique styles, it will sound something like a Chinese speaking Black Eyed Peas cover band. Thankfully the dark side of the moon will be the only inhabitable surface in our solar system, so it's only natural that the album would remain quite popular.
