  • Post subject: Most underrated/underrecognized albums
  • Reply with quote
Well, the following albums are all masterpieces and among the greatest albums ever made, yet are vastly underrated/underrecognized. In order, from most underrated/underrecognized to "least" most underrated/underrecognized...

1. Dolmen Music-Meredith Monk (1981)
2. Well Oiled-Hash Jar Tempo (1997)
3. Lullaby Land-Vampire Rodents (1993)
4. Hosianna Mantra-Popol Vuh (1973)
5. Parable of Arable Land-Red Crayola (1967)
6. Lorca-Tim Buckley (1970)
7. Improvisie-Paul Bley (1971)
8. Saxophone Improvisations Series F-Anthony Braxton (1972)
9. Twin Infinitives-Royal Trux (1990)
10. Geek The Girl-Lisa Germano (1994)
11. Desertshore-Nico (1971)
12. Atlantis-Sun Ra (1967)
13. The Ascension-Glenn Branca (1981)
14. For Alto-Anthony Braxton (1969)
15. Irrlicht-Klaus Schulze (1972)
16. Third-Soft Machine (1970)
17. Yerself Is Steam-Mercury Rev (1991)
18. Faust-Faust (1971)
19. Y-Pop Group (1979)
20. Spiritual Unity-Albert Ayler (1964)
21. Unit Structures-Cecil Taylor (1966)
22. Rock Bottom-Robert Wyatt (1974)
23. The Modern Dance-Pere Ubu (1978)

Again, the above albums are grossly underrated, usually in favor of far less deserving ones. They are given in order of how great they are compared to the accolades they receive on other best of lists, rankings, ratings, etc...

Summer Teeth by Wilco is great.

Hi all, Im new, bands whose albums dont get enough love are bands like

Helmet and all their albums
Deftones and all their albums
311
Quicksand
and all their albums
just to name a few.

anybody know these bands?
most of you should know Deftons or 311.
from 311 check out the self-titled and Sound system albums
from Helmet check out, Betty,Meantime, and Aftertaste
Deftones Around The Fur and White pony
quicksand check out slip, and manic compression. all these bands started in the late 80s and were popular in the 90's and today. Cool

I think some ignorant people shrug off Pet Sounds because when one thinks of the Beach Boys, they think of simple songs of surfing, cars, and women.

I pity those people who won't listen to Pet Sounds because of that reason. They are missing out on one of the best albums of all time.
