Influence chart

What I'd love to see on here is a chart/tree linking artists to artists relating to their influence. So, for example

Syd Barrett
|
David Bowie
/ \
Lady Gaga Freddie Mercury

How would that work

at the bottom of the tree/chart would be the most recent artists. and it would go upwards and branch out relating to their influences.

No, I get what you're trying to suggest... but how would this tree actually work? Who would create it? Who dictates who influenced someone or not? This seems very difficult for something with little use.

I think the general idea here has some potential.

How about this for an idea...

If the site could have a way of collecting recs on album pages.

So, say you were to go to the album page for Nick Cave's "Tender Prey", and that album page lists album recs based on user input.

Much like the genre tagging system of Rate Your Album, users on BEA would be able to add album recs, and vote up or down suggestions, so the ranking of suggested albums would be ranked by the votes received.

This could be super helpful for finding new records, and much more easy to navigate than Recommendation threads.

Naturally, Albumaster has a lot on his plate and this would be quite an undertaking, but I could see a lot of people benefitting from it.

All of this. I'd definitely try to help out with this if it ever happened as I really enjoy tracing the history of rock and hearing different scenes & sounds evolve.
