Wow, really? I am very very sad to hear this news. He was an artist and a man who rose above in a way the whole genre of the Blues. He was probably the greatest electric blues ambassador of all time. His tone, his skill, his PURE ringing emotion in so much of the music he made is legendary. I adore this man and all he's done for music. His album "Indianola Mississppi Seeds" was one of the first 3 or so blues albums that captured my attention at a young age, and the rest is history and I've been a blues enthusiast ever since. My story is just one example, or a microcosm, of what he meant to so many people and the blues in general.
We love you, B.B. Go on and bring the power of your people's music to your next destination.
"In the winter of 1949, King played at a dance hall in Twist, Arkansas. In order to heat the hall, a barrel half-filled with kerosene was lit, a fairly common practice at the time. During a performance, two men began to fight, knocking over the burning barrel and sending burning fuel across the floor. The hall burst into flames, and the building was evacuated. Once outside, King realized that he had left his guitar inside so he went back into the burning building to retrieve his beloved $30 Gibson guitar. Two men died in the fire, and King learned the next day that they had been fighting over a woman named Lucille. King subsequently named that first guitar Lucille, as well as every guitar he has owned since, as a reminder never again to do something as stupid as run into a burning building or fight over women." One my favourite bluesmen of all time. Not as raw as John Lee Hooker or Muddy Waters, but he had an accessibility and mass appeal that most of the other blues greats did not.
So long, B.B. You were one of the greats, nobody can ever doubt that. Listen to the heavenly music, now. You helped make some of it. _________________ Top Canadian songs, keyless entry remotes, home care, whatever...
