Pop music coated in a thick layer of muffled sludge. Absolutely perfect.

If I was stranded on a desert island and could only take one REM album with me, this would be the one!

Fantastic, classic album! It's actually not that inscrutable- most albums praised by this site today are far more so. Mostly just catchy, and I would say dreamy & romantic too, while still full of young optimism. Perfect complements with "Automatic for the People"

Probably their most consistent, and my second favorite after Automatic for the People.
