Slipknot was my first legit favorite band in early middle school. Then it was Sabbath after buying Paranoid and it becoming my favorite album ever at the time. Then in high school it was Zeppelin/Floyd/Queen. Then Bob Dylan post-high school. Then for a brief period it was Stevie Wonder and/or Neil Young. Then the Velvet Underground. And now its Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, although I feel slightly burnt out on them so I could see either David Bowie or Burial possibly taking over my #1 but I'm sort of over ranking artists because unlike albums there's really no way to calculate it once you've heard so much. Like, do you rank Kendrick Lamar, Jimi Hendrix and Joy Division, who have had just few albums, in the same area as prolific names like Miles Davis, Tom Waits and the Beatles? I love them all and it just depends on my mood as to whether I love them, like them or couldn't give a damn.

Favorite Stevie Wonder record?

And that's a great question with Hendrix (in particular). I think you can lump him in with guys like Miles and the Beatles because even though his body of work is relatively small, the catalog is so prolific with many legendary tracks and moments and has stood the test of time for nearly 50 years. Also, Jimi influenced a fuck ton of players and continues to do so today. Kendrick Lamar will be there one day too, but because he's still living and only has 3 records out, so not just yet. A favorite? Obviously. But not an "all time great" yet if that's the term you want to use.

I've got a chart of sorts for this, but as memory recalls...

Age 6 - Billy Joel (Uptown Girl was the first record I ever fell in love with)
Age 8-10 - Go West
Age 10-14 - Pet Shop Boys, New Order
Age 14-present - The Smiths
Age 16-19 - Stone Roses, Oasis, Joy Division, Beatles, Small Faces, Kinks (love the Kinks)
Age 17-present - Pavement
Age 18-present - Nick Drake, Velvet Underground, The Fall, Beach Boys
Age 20-present - David Bowie
Age 23-25 - Nothing specific, more than likely a mix of all the above from 14-23 (bar Oasis)
Age 26-30 - Stevie Wonder
Age 30-present - Animal Collective, Joanna Newsom
Age 37-present - Jorge Ben
Age 38-present - Nirvana (only took 25-odd years for the penny to drop)
