I know Boston eventually just made the same album over and over again, and I know this album basically typifies dadrock, but I love this.
Tom Scholz is a genius and was able to create an incredibly unique sound with his guitars and Brad Delp's vocals are fantastic. It's hard rock (for the time) but layered with excellently-crafted melodies and harmonies, and the lyrics aren't too bad either.
The album just rocks, it's fun, it's a party, but it's not mindless, it's well-composed. I don't know why, but I can't listen to "Foreplay/Long Time" without the volume all the way up.
Did/do these songs get overplayed? Without a doubt. But when I look at this album as it is, it's one of the greatest ever. _________________ Progressive Rock
Didn't like it when it came out, and don't like it now. I do think it's impressive sounding, just never grabbed me. My brother and wife both love it. Friends love it. I just don't get the appeal.
There are only a few bands with a signature guitar sound and Boston is one of them. They issued two of the best songs ever which also happened to be their greatest hits (of course More than a Feeling and Don't Look Back). The rest is not so good but with these two they have set a standard.

Well said, all around, and Brad Delp's vocals never really get enough credit. Try singing along and hitting all those notes. Then imagine singing over that guitar noise. You (and I) can't listen to Long Time without the volume all the way up because of F*(KIN AWESOME, that's why! _________________ Top Canadian songs, keyless entry remotes, home care, whatever...

It has become fashionable to bash Boston as a product of the late seventies, harbingers of "corporate rock," and no more than a flash in the pan. However, this debut was a genuine earth-shaking revelation at the time of its release, and still sounds great today, even with classic rock radio burnout. Every cut is worthwhile and most are bona fide classics. The group may have never again matched the quality of their opening salvo, but that doesn't mean this album is not one of the standout greats of all time; it most certainly is.
