I really enjoyed A Somber Dance. It's a good album and I would have preferred it to several others. But I like even more Autunm Eternal and my vote goes to Panopticon.

This one is pretty close for meโ but ultimately I leaned slightly to Panopticon; even despite the fact I donโt care for this record as much as I like Kentucky from a few years earlier. Still, points to Estatic Fear who created an interesting album that has caught my attention and curiosity. As a fan of early symphonic/gothic metal groups such as Tristania, Epica, Theatre of Tragedy, My Dying Bride, The Gathering, and Paradise Lost this definitely catches my attention. Such a shame that these guys never made more albums afterwards, too.

Same. I'm not too familiar with the type of metal of A Sombre Dance but enjoyed it anyways. I read a few places that some found it cheesy and I didn't really feel it that cheesy. It did sound similar all the way through but that was intentional I guess, judging by the track names it was to be seen as one piece. It was very inventive and cohesive. I could have done with more peaks, like when the heavy guitars kicked in it didn't feel they hit heavy enough. Obviously produced to make sure all various instrumentation was audible. Same when what I think was a church organ came, it should sound massive and it didn't really. Minor complaints production wise but it did slightly detract.
Panopticon is a fave of mine from this decade so yeah.
