John Carpenter's Halloween. Such an otherwise bad movie (except for the opening scene which I don't think anyone can argue the rest of the movie lives up to).
.... if Purple Rain counts, then does The Wall count? Yellow Submarine? I don't think they should count. I think they'd all exist w/o the movies.

That's true. But let's say Purple Rain counts because it was all new, original music written for the movie.. Whereas the Wall was not original music, or written for the movie. I should have made it 2 separate lists. One for original music, and one for previously released type soundtracks that are really just compilations.
The Wall is absolutely not a soundtrack as it came first with no plan of it being a soundtrack. the other two mentioned were i believe introduced at the same time as the movie like help and a hard days night. hell yellow submarine is available in a version with the orchestral parts surely thats a soundtrack.
