I'm talking about somebody like the Bee Gees who made some great pop albums like;

Odessa by Bee Gees

But are now almost universally known for;

Saturday Night Fever by Various Artists

U2. Although they typecast themselves. They did a genius parody of a certain type of artist in the early 90s....and then went on to become that parody.

They have a handful of really solid albums before sliding into dadrock in the 00s.

I'm not quite sure if u mean typecast by the public or by themselves. If u mean became parodies of themselves, or of a genre, than here i go.

Bruce Springsteen
U2
Nirvana
Rolling Stones
All modern Country stars
All modern rappers
All modern soul divas

Very nice choice. As a disco fan, and a semi-expert, it burns my ass that people associate The Bee Gees with GOOD or typical disco music. Some of their disco records made for pretty good pop hits, but NOT for good disco. And like u, i really like their late 60s n early 70s stuff..

Yes U2 is a prime example of this. The Rolling Stones did became kind of parodies but still no one denies how great they are.
