- Post subject: besteveralbums.com format for other mediums?
|
besteveralbums.com is certainly a great structure for users to share what they think are the best albums out there.
I think this structure/format could relatively easily be applied to other mediums, specifically films and video games. Very little has to be changed to the actual format.
Users would be able to keep the same accounts across all bestever sites and I think it would help create an even more expansive user base across all mediums.
As far as I know, there is nothing like this for those mediums (all other sites focus on overall scores, whilst this focuses on what appears most often on best ever charts).
Just wondering whether albummaster has considered this at all yet.
Of course, even if he has, I wouldn't expect to see it at all until this site is mostly complete with the big updates.

I think we can all just agree that Final Fantasy VII is the best video game ever, and Short Circuit 2 was the best movie ever.
Problem solved.

yeah I'm going to go with Shadow of the Colossus and Raging Bull. And this has been brought up before, and I think the dude said it was too much for him; I mean, he's the only moderator for this site, which is beginning to get sizable

Yes, it has been asked/mentioned a few times, enough times for me to think about it. But, to be honest, this site is a hell of a lot of work to look after and maintain.
To do what you are suggesting, this site would need extra funding to buy in development resource to scale the site up, bigger servers, more bandwidth etc. At the moment, this site is privately run and does not have access to that kind of funding.
Yes, it would be less work to create a film site, or a book site, or a game site based on the framework here (rather than starting from scratch), but it would still be a hell of a lot of work and something that I'm not prepared to get into at the moment.
I've seen other 'music' sites expand into films, games, books (or whatever else) but they lose their focus and maybe a tiny bit of their 'authority' because their audience changes from people who are only into music, to people who just have a passing interest and are perhaps there just for films or books etc.
Also, as you mentioned, this site isn't finished yet and personally I'd like to finish delivering against the current roadmap before thinking more about what happens in 2012 and beyond.

Thanks for the response.
Perhaps sometime in the distant future.
