  • Post subject: Best Year For Music- THE RESULTS/ WINNER!!
We did it! Starting back in late 2017 this series of threads began and each one offered great discussion. It was something I had considered making a bit of a project for a while up to that point so thank you guys for maintaining interest and voting throughout the whole thing! It was a lot of fun for me and I hope you felt the same and most importantly I hope there were some recommendations taken, that was certainly true in my case.

After a couple thorough checkings and re-checkings, we have a year that has the most standalone points as well as some other very interesting data:

>32 individual users replied with lists.

>1997 was the only year to be featured in every list. There were two users that chose to compose shorter lists, 1997 being featured on both of them.

>Each year got at least 2 first place votes. First place voting resulted in the following:

-1967 with 9, 1969 with 6, 1997 with 5, 1971 and 1977 each with 4, and 1991 and 1994 each with 2.

>The top 3 years are only separated by 3 points. It was pretty fun to tally up the points honestly.

So without further jargon Here are the results:

TIED FOR LAST- 6th/7th PLACE- 1991 & 1997- 93 POINTS

5th PLACE- 1994- 97 POINTS

4th PLACE- 1977- 120 POINTS

3rd PLACE- 1971- 146 POINTS

2nd PLACE- 1967- 147 POINTS

1st PLACE- 1969- 149 POINTS

Thanks once more for making this fun for me to do. Can't wait for the next one!

Could it be because of Woodstock?

Can't say entirely as I would think most votes were cast based off of the music put out in each respective year, however I found it totally appropriate to judge a year based off of events and happenings as well. Maybe Woodstock gave 1969 the edge for a couple users, but not sure.

Eh, I think a lot of the stuff on my 69 list didn't play at Woodstock. It's really the mixture of formative psychedelic and hard rock albums and the amazing breadth of folk singer/songwriters.

Don't think so. None of the artists who were at Woodstock are very popular on this site. Except for Jimi Hendrix.

So basically 60s are the best, then 70s, 90s, 80s, 00s, 10s. Oh this might be material for a new discussion Very Happy Very Happy

And much to my surprise, I would agree with that. That's exactly the order in which I would rate the decades myself.

Totally cool with that order.

2010 is missing, but whatever. All good.

Me too. But I think if it was on weight/amount of great albums then the 70s would come out on top. 60s probably the best truly seminal releases though.
