Hey! I've been on a bit of an IDM binge lately, and want to know who else is in to it, and what stuff you like. My knowledge is pretty surface level (mainly just Autechre, Aphex Twin, BoC, Flying Lotus, some Squarepusher). I'm really liking jazz-influenced stuff right now especially. Amon Tobin is a guy that I've found that I really like.

If you want some recommendations for stuff, below are just a couple albums you should check out (sub-genre in parentheses). And, I'd love any recs if you have them.

Amon Tobin - Permutations (Jazz-step)
Autechre - Draft 7.30 (Experimental?)
Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma (Maximalist / Nu Jazz)
Squarepusher - Music is Rotted One Note (Jazz-fusion)

(I know IDM's a bit of a flawed term. It works well for those who know what it means, but it seems pretty stuck-up from the outside, and it kinda is. My alternative term would be Rhythmica, as the premise of IDM seems to be based on rhythmic distortions. I think it's a cool sounding word too, but no one else uses the term, so it's not too functional at the moment)

I love IDM, you checking out the compilation of early squarepusher stuff Burningn'n Tree? I think you might dig the jazz influenced side that one covers.

the albums that I think are underrated and always like to recommend:

Yeah, IDM does sound like a stuck-up term, but that name wasn't given to it by the people who originally made it. It was just a label created by writers or critics because they love to label stuff. At the same time there was also a term used that I find maybe not better but at least a little more amusing: armchair techno. Which at least sounds like what it is, techno made for listening rather than club play. Here's some of my all-time favorite ones.
