So far I've heard the Ray Noble original, as well as versions by Charlie Barnet and his band, Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, and a few others. Does anyone know of a good one I could check out?

Cherokee's one of those melodies that doesn't hold up well for me over repeated listenings, so I only like the bebop versions like Bird's and Bud's.

There are good guitar versions by Tal Farlow, Johnny Smith, and Danny Gatton.

The best music to arise from "Cherokee" is Charlie Parker's "Ko Ko," based on its chord changes. If you want to know what bebop is, there isn't a better example than "Ko Ko."
