It's not so much the nationality of the album, though "British charts" usually have British albums, but rather the probability that an album seems to pop up on British publications charts e.g. Sgt. Peppers, Revolver, Exile on Main Street, London Calling, something Led Zeppelin will be in an "American chart," a "British chart" will have the Stone Roses, the Smiths, Oasis, and a lot more Nirvana than an "American chart." I don't know, just some thoughts
