It's a great Joanna Newsom song, I'm not gonna blame anyone for voting for it, but the emotions on almost every Willard track are what made me love the band. This is a fantastic cover and maybe their most popular song. Go listen to Regard The End and Let It Roll, very underrated releases.

Joanna: cool song but positively intolerable vocals.

WGC easily here.

I quite liked the Willard song but it seems like quite a lot of that gothic Americana kind of stuff on a first listen. Peach, Pear, Plum is a strange one but it's certainly interesting and I prefer it of the two.

Peach Plum Pear isn't my favorite song from the Milk Eyed Mender, but it is my favorite vocal performance. River in the Pines gets points for taking place in Wisconsin but I didn't like it nearly as much as Newsom's song.

Joanna Newsom, particularly on The Milk-Eyed Mender album, may be one of my least favorite things to listen to. I will say, she lays off the bogus theatricality on her later albums, which I'm starting to enjoy more, but I can't ever, in good conscience, lend my vote to her caterwauling. So, my vote goes to the fake True Detective theme.

Heh they're definitely in the same genre, in fact I think I've read somewhere that the guy from Handsome Family and Robert Fisher of WGC were friends. Or I might have just made that up. I thought about nominating Far From Any Road too, but it seemed like a populist choice and it's not my favourite Handsome Family song so that never happened

But actually I voted for it because I actually liked it, but I totally agree. I often struggle to listen to an album of hers and not just because it's "challenging".

The Willard Grant Conspiracy song made me think of a lesser Handsome Family too. Then it made me think of this...

My vote goes to Joanna pretty easily. Not on the same level as later work, but still sounds pretty unique.
