Broken social scene. I wasn't blown away on a first listen but thought it was a decent track that built well. I didn't get too much from Mac Dre here though it sounded okay I guess.
I've driven past the spot where Mac Dre was shot on 71 highway plenty of times. Such a shame that he went that way. Mac Dre is one of the most important figures in underground rap, and he'll always be remembered.

I was happy to see Anthems was nominated because it's my favorite song on You Forgot It In People but I didn't think it was that well regarded. I love how it rides its repetition to its eventual climax. I liked the Mac Dre song and might check out more of his stuff but it's an easy vote for me. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
I actually surprisingly really dig the dre track and was a clear winner for me over Broken Social Scene. Flow/beat/tone/music was fantastic, even if some of the lyrics were immature.
I love "Anthems For a Seventeen Year-Old Girl" but I probably would have gone with "Lover's Spit" as my Broken Social Scene 2000s song pick.
The Mac Dre jam made this decision harder than expected, but I can't ignore the nostalgia I get from this BSS track. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
You Forgot it in the People is an album where you could choose any song here and it would bring something special, and Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl may very well be the cherry on top. Going with the one 21st century song I can play on the banjo.
