I was convinced that it was code for the baby's real name or trolling when he tweeted it. Just saw the tweet from Grimes, and sadly it's not. Dear God.

i still think it's a code. elon said "x is y", which i take to mean x (as in the unknown variable) is y-chromosome. c's post is even more cryptic than his was. she admits the ae character represents "ai" (as in artificial intelligences or love), and the a-12 is a fighter jet she and elon like. it's not the kid's name... you can't legally use any of those characters in a baby's name in california, so... they're screwing with everyone.

anyone care to crack the code? it's getting late. my first train of thought was:

x=y | x is y, as elon said
ae = ai | ae is ai, as claire said
a-12 = sr | the a-12 jet is often confused with a sr-71
= yaisra

but a, perhaps, better theory, is the one offered by tweeter @flcnhvy:

x = x | keeping that one easy
ae = ash | apparently, the ae symbol is pronounced ash
a-12 = archangel | archangel was the internal codename for the cia's a-12 aircraft
= x ash archangel

i like flcnhvy's interpretation, but i'm going to go ahead and say the x is still a reference to the sex, and not the child's first name (we can hope, right?):

x = y | it has a y-chromo
ae = ash | interp'd above
a-12 = archangel | see above
= ash archangel (musk)
