I loved Lateralus, was kinda meh about Ænima. I prefer the more clean & polished sound and the more complex arrangements of Lateralus over the more dirty and aggressive sound of Ænima. Based on that, which Tool album should I check out next? 🤔

If you started with the two most famous Tool albums and loved Lateralus, then you can pretty much do whatever you want with Tool. Then you can move on to other bands who have similarities to Tool or just other prog metal bands.
Essentials are Opeth, Fates Warning, Gojira, Dream Theater, Mastodon and Devin Townsend. If you develop in interest in black metal, check out Enslaved. All you need to do is to start a "New Topic" in music diaries. It's right in between the one that you originally posted in (New Members) and this one (Music). No worries
