About a month ago I posted an excerpt from my forthcoming album/symphony Olympus Mons. A common complaint was that it wasn't enough to go on, well I'm now continuing my shameless self-promotion with a second (arrogantly named ) taste. This track is much more ambient than the last and it's actually very simple - but I unashamedly like it.
I like the actual sounds, but the tracks feel cluttered. The best thing about Krautrock(which I'm assuming is a huge influence on the music you're making) is the way it develops over time. I think you cram all the bits and pieces in a little too quickly. I would do exactly what you're doing now, but just space out the various moving parts a little more so that it more thoroughly resembles the "cosmic odyssey" type of thing that you're clearly going for.
Just my opinion, of course _________________ I love all music. It makes you feel like living. Silence is death.
Thanks for the feedback man. I totally get where you're coming from in reference to the older youtube excerpt (Although it was intended to be quite chaotic) but I guess I kinda thought the newer soundcloud one was quite patient (though I guess maybe not). In terms of extending them out, they're actually small parts of bigger pieces and the album/symphony as a whole is tracking to be at least 52 minutes long - so I'm kinda loathed to extend anyhting. So with it being that long most of the other tracks are quite long and take their time. I guess I just posted a couple of the short, sharp ones because I found them to be instantly engaging rather than one of the longer bits but perhaps I misjudged. Anyway thanks again.
I can only find the one track Olympus Mons II, Part IV
Is that yours Jhereko or is that a cover/remake ?
One thing that jumped out at me instantly is the fact that
THE RECORDING LEVEL WAS SET 2 HIGH
dBFS: Deci-Bel (one tenth of a Bel) Full Scale -- On the digital recording scale, -0dBFS is the hottest signal you can have. "All ones." Top of the scale, can't get hotter, etc. Always "minus" as you can never go higher - So the reading will always be a specified amount below 0.
Line Level / 0dBVU: Just what it says. Line level. 0dBVU on an analog VU (volume unit) meter. Pro (+4dBu) or consumer (-10dBv) level, it's line level. We can also refer to this as RMS (Root Mean, Squared), or a level over a specific amount of time. You *can* go above or below 0dBVU. It's simply a nominal level to which basically everything audio is related to.
When you take a steak and cook it until it's burnt, it's burnt. If you pour ice cubes all over it, it doesn't make it more rare - It makes it a cold, wet, burnt steak. No matter what you do, it's still burnt. Just like if you record too hot.
But if you cook a steak a little too rare, you can always heat it up a bit later. You can microwave it without it turning into leather. You can pan-fry it for a few minutes and it's still a tasty, savory piece of steak.

Dude, first of all, if that's the case, then you are not really even "making music"
I guess it depends on your opinion of what you have to do to "make music". But you didn't seem to have any problem with the last tracks I posted which were all electronic.
