THIS IS NOT A MUSIC DIARY! For some reason this thread has been moved to the Music Diary board.
This thread is for posting Christian / Gospel music. This genre seems to be very ignored on this site by most. It's about time it got some focus and attention here. If there are others here who enjoy this genre, besides me, please post some of your favorites here. If not, I'll just post what I like. I'm going to start off with my favorite singer, Lauren Talley. This is called "Mercy Tree".
I rarely listen to any Christian or religious music, except for Christmas music and a few other things. However one of my favorite albums is this one here which features well-known Christian and Gospel songs like Oh Happy Day and To My Father's House, and the twist is that it's a disco album. And since it was done by the same people who did Donna Summer's albums, it is quite excellent by any standard.
Thank you for sharing one of your favorites. Thanks for not ignoring my thread. I'm not familiar with that artist or album or any Christian disco music other than this one song that I do enjoy. It's called "Only His Love" by The Archers, and it's from 1979.
By the way, your mention of disco music reminded me that disco singer Gloria Gaynor released a Christian / Gospel album in 2019 called "Testimony". My favorite track from that album is a duet with Bart Millard called "He Won't Let Go".
Yeah I think Gloria Gaynor has been doing Christian songs for quite a while now.
And also, I just thought of the song that's probably the most famous and popular Christian rock hit of all time. And my all-time favorite, and also a number one song I believe.
@Brigand99 Although those aren't really musically my style, thanks for sharing anyway. I like to hear what other people like in this genre even if it's not really my style, just as I like to share what I like with others even though it may not be exactly what they like either. I think I remember hearing the first one in the movie "Woodlawn", which is a movie that I love, by the way. As for the second one, I like the Dolly version better than the first version. @MadhattanJack Those were very good musicians in your instrumental video. Thanks for sharing. I'm glad to be getting a few responses. I wasn't sure if I'd get any in this thread. I've had threads on this site before that were totally ignored.
For my second song in this thread, I'm posting a song that I couldn't stop playing when it was first released in 2018. It's performed by The Martins, produced by Gordon Mote, and it was written by Kenna Turner West & Amber Eppinette Saunders (of Lauren Talley's new group, "Lauren, Amber & Kenna", and Amber is also a member of 11th Hour, another one of my favorite groups.) I'm a fan of all of these people. No wonder I love this song so much. It tells a bible story from the book of Daniel and it's just a very powerful and moving song to me. As, of now it's tied for number one (with Lauren Talley's "Reverend John") on my all-time most played songs on last.fm. I didn't know at the time I first heard it, that all of those people I'm a fan of were involved with this song, but I was absolutely blown away by it from the moment I first heard it. For me, it's one of the most powerful and moving songs I've ever heard. It's called "Smell of Smoke".

It's always funny to see this song classified as Christian rock.
Norman Greenbaum is not Christian. He's Jewish. He wrote it simply to see if he could do it. The song includes the line "Never been a sinner/I've never sinned/I got a friend in Jesus", which Christians in the 70's blasted him for, and understandably so...it's one of the least Christian things one can say. He simply claimed ignorance, saying that he didn't know better because he's not a Christian. He said:
Quote:
Norman Greenbaum Said:
"Yes. The song itself was simple, when you're writing a song you keep it simple of course. It wasn't like a Christian song of praise it was just a simple song. I had to use Christianity because I had to use something. But more important it wasn't the Jesus part, it was the spirit in the sky."
Also, there is not a single song in Greenbaum's career that comes even close to this subject matter. This is the guy who also wrote "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago" and "Canned Ham". _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold
