Don't think I've written anything on DjRum's remix of Ganzfeld yet.
The original song by Objekt was released in 2014. It was one of the early breakthroughs for him, and it epitomized the changes in the electronic music landscape at the time. It sounded forward-thinking to the mainstream, but similar styles had been brewing in the underground for years. Still think it's close to perfect, and a lot of people at the time agreed as it was named track of the year by Resident Advisor. Fast-forward 10 years, and for the anniversary edition of the single Objekt has collaborated with Djrum, Piezo and Ulla. Djrum's rendition is especially insane, and I think it eclipses the original in many ways. It's a multi-part 10-minute epic in the typical Djrum schizo fashion, mixing everything from jungle breaks to electro basslines lifted from the original to halftime breakdown to that gorgeous intro and vocal samples to the symphonic elements (also found often in his production). It may be my song of the year. Definitely catch Djrum's set if you can. Dude's jazz background combined with genuinely prodigy-level vinyl mixing makes for some of the best and most fun DJ-ing you've heard. His production work is similarly complex and interesting, with the Ganzfeld remix being a career highlight. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
