Was my favorite album by The Beatles for a few years there. Still in my top two or three, and still has my favorite Beatles song overall. A great album and a fantastic sea change into one of the finest stretches any artist has ever had.
Only 4 hours and three people (including II) have predictably posted.
"Rubber Soul" along "Revolver" belong to my favorite peak era of The Beatles, since they had their Elvis-esque bluesy influence, which made the songs quite very melodic as a result, and some of the song's lyrics are less ambiguous (although very few of them are questionable), which makes the songs more understandable. Unfortunately for me, they seem to have compositionally abandoned this influence, as later on in their career, their compositions became simpler, in spite of how phenomenal their production became, so fortunately pre-"Currents" Tame Impala could've fill in the void for me.
What's so interesting about Rubber Soul is that it influenced Pet Sounds and Pet Sounds influenced Revolver (and possibly Sgt. Pepper too).
Some of Rubber Soul's songs have the best lyrics ever written in popular music, as they're intelligible, sincere and meaningful.
Brian Wilson understood Rubber Soul's magic and figured out how to implement this magic in its full potential with even deeper lyrics and unique instrumentation.
The Beatles, especially Paul McCartney, were mesmerized by Brian's ambitious release, and just like Brian with Pet Sounds, The Beatles revolutionized the whole popular music era with Revolver.
And all these three albums are of the most important albums ever in popular music's history!
Now it comes to my mind that Rubber Soul must be the most influential record of all time even to this day, as no records sounded like it at that time and before then, and for a record released in 1965, it is ahead of its time, because some records since that time still have the same compositional and lyrical styles of Rubber Soul.
Thus, it is a very important record which has many songs to offer. So if you haven't listened to it (which is unlikely, since this album has been praised almost everywhere on planet Earth), then you probably should, since Rubber Soul and Pet Sounds are two of the most magical-sounding albums to ever exist!

It gets dinged in the rankings pretty badly because of "Run For Your Life." If they had left that one off and closed the album with "In My Life," I think people these days would be much more likely to rate it up there with Revolver.

II absolutely agree. Even though II've always liked "Run For Your Life"'s instrumental composition, when II read Edit: removing this preposition to the lyrics for the first time, II realized how scary and evil they are. So that's one of the reasons why "Revolver" is the better album for me.
"In My Life" as an album closer would be historically unforgettable! We already know how "Tomorrow Never Knows" is as an album closer.
"If I Needed Someone" seems to be conclusive enough in order to close "Rubber Soul", but it would be fine with me if "Run For Your Life" would still be an album closer, but only on these conditions: different lyrics, title & meaning.
