- Post subject: ranking of the most useful site options
|
Hi.
I just discovered several useful chart sorting options on the album page today. I hadn't noticed them before due to my unfamiliarity with the language and lack of attention. I'm sure there are more options I don't use due to ignorance.
Perhaps the forum already has a ranking of the most useful site options that every newbie should familiarize themselves with first.
If there isn't one, perhaps experienced members could compile a ranking of the options they use most often. This is especially interesting if these options aren't so obvious.
Such a ranking would be very useful in the "New Members" section.
I can say from my own perspective that, in my uninitiated opinion, sorting charts by album rating is a very useful option for those who are looking for interesting music using charts from participants with similar tastes.
What is not obvious to me, however, is that until the sorting option is activated, the list of charts offered is not only randomly compiled, but also incomplete.

Sounds a great idea for a thread, I wish the site better-catered for international visitors (it's very text heavy right now). I'm probably too close to the site to give an obvious list, but here's a few to get things going:
- The overall chart history page contains a complete record of changes in rank of all albums in the BEA database.
- You can filter the list of charts on BEA to view individual member or recognised charts e.g. for a particular year or decade. You can also sort the charts by average rating to see the top-rated charts of each type.
- BEA has a random album feature which can be accessed from the Resources menu. The 'randomness' of this feature can be controlled from your user profile by adjusting the setting 'Set limit for random albums' (a higher number will result in more obscure selections being displayed).
- Outside of here, there are Spotify playlists for every aggregated chart on BEA (& also individual playlists for the top 20 artists), updated monthly with the latest data from BEA.
A getting started (or user guide) would be a good thing to add to the site (going to work on creating one, targeted at new users to supplement the how it works page).
