- Post subject: The Best and Worse Album Covers!
|
The album cover shouldn't affect the quality of music but surely people look at a cover and think similiarly to me and wonder why the band would make such good music under the umbrella of such a crap cover?!
However, the other side of it is the album cover you spot and think, "That looks cool" or "I bet this music is gonna be sweet!" and whether it turns out to be or not you remember liking the cover.
Of course... I may be alone in this "Judge a Book By It's Cover" thinking but as long as you don't let the cover stop you listening to what it contains then I think it's ok to have an opinion on the matter.
Anyway,
Personal Fav: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Least Fav: Joshua Tree

I believe (as has also been mentioned in the published reviews of the album) that Rick Derringer's All American Boy would have done a lot better if it hadn't had that ridiculous cover, so when it comes to the quality of the music in relation to the album cover, that would be on my worst list.
For best cover, when I was a kid one half of the school yard listened to heavy metal, and I'd be willing to bet you one annual salary that Iron Maiden and Kiss doubled their album sales to us at that point because of their awesome packaging.

Checked out Rick Derringer's All American Boy... made me laugh!
And you're right the music doesn't quite match the cover.

Galore by The Cure was probably the worst (and weirdest) covers out there. _________________ sig

I guess a baby in a nappy on the beach is a weird cover for an album called Galore... and with music like Wrong Number in it I'm not sure if it matches or not....

I think that Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavillion is one of the better covers ive ever seen.
But what would be considered the most recogniseable album cover? Dark Side of the Moon or maybe even Abbey Road?
I really can't think of a worst but Iggy Pop - Lust for Life is pretty bad _________________ Having a family is the kind of thing that could be held against a person

come on, really? There are many worse than Lust for Life; it's got the reformed man on the cover, with his first smile he's had on an album cover; so there's history behind it, and those who love 'im get the cover

We should have a thread on here about the stories behind more album covers It would be enlightening to know why some covers get chosen.
