Listed below are some of the bigger ideas which are under consideration for 2012's roadmap (which will be published in the next few weeks):

  • Completion of the membership ladder (year charts, name your own rank, charts for fun, premium membership)
  • Charts by tag/genre (to be carried over from 2011)
  • Tracking of collections versus multiple lists (A bit trickier than first thought because BEA's aggregate lists are always changing!)
  • iPhone/Android app (something interesting could be done here- not sure what yet!)
  • Ability to post reviews (separate from comments) - seems to be a recurring theme that BEA is missing something here
  • Average rating calculation adjustments to reduce the effects of outliers (and dock points from repeat offenders)

(N.B. If something has already been suggested on the forum, and it is not listed above, it's probably considered a smaller change. I'm only interested in bigger changes here as they can take a lot of time to implement and need more planning. There's a couple of weeks or so before the above list is firmed up, so what changes would *you* like to see in 2012?

One thing I just noticed today was that the number of charts than an album appears on is no longer broken down. I liked being able to see how many overall charts and decade charts an album made. For me, it's much more indicative of the quality (or appeal) of an album that appears on 27 overall charts and 2 decade charts as opposed to one that is on 15 overall charts and 18 decade charts. The first would be likely a better album (according to most) that has stood the test of time, with the latter would be more of a nostalgic snapshot of that particular decade. I think this will especially become more useful when/if users can add different genre or country charts.

Aside from that, I'm very impressed with all of the improvements this year, and in general how you managed to stick to the roadmap.

How about the ability to enter yearly album charts (on top of the current decade charts and overall all-time chart)? I'd say at least 50 per year would do it.

yes. it's on the list (it's a smaller change, which is why it's not listed, but it will get done).

thanks, it's not always easy to steer a straight course, but getting there gradually.

mass "add to collection":

i want to add ALL the albums i've ranked or rated to "my collection" as i've only ranked and rated albums that i actually have. The ability to add all (that haven't already been added) would be useful. I don't really want to go back through the hundreds i've ranked and/or rated and click "add to collection".
