i have to write a paper for my "Road Trips in American Culture" class about a primary source that has to do with the "lure of the road." She said we were allowed to do pieces of art, so I figured I'd probably do a song. The three that I've thought of are "I Get Around," "Thunder Road," and "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out."

Which of those do you think is best? Or am I missing an obvious one? Remember, whatever I pick I have to write 3-4 pages on, evaluating it as a primary source.

Of those three, Thunder Road (Born to Run works too), but there are other great road song out there:

Check out:

Windfall- Son Volt (In fact, the entirety of Trace is pretty much about the lure of the road)
On the Road Again- Willie Nelson
Route 66- Many Artists

There are lots. Sounds like an interesting topic. Very Happy

I also recommend reading On the Road (obviously) and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance... but you might not have time. Think

Already read it, it's one of my favorite books haha. Probably the main reason I'm taking the class. We're going to read it again, actually.

If you have spare time, read The Motorcycle Diaries by Ernesto Che Guevara. I think GARY would've killed me if he was around for saying this. Laughing

I chose Thunder Road, but you could make a case for most Springsteen songs! I'd suggest looking at Born to Run as well, I think these two lines sum it up;

'The highways jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybodys out on the run tonight but there's no place left to hide'

But it's your call, sounds more interesting than anything I ever did at school anyway!
