Hello - Not sure if this has been covered before, but I thought I would see what people's opinion is about Bowie's diverse career.

Which Bowie do you prefer?

1. 1969 to 1973: Folk to glam rock (A Man of Words... - Ziggy Stardust)
2. 1974 to 1976: Soul, R&B, and The Thin White Duke (Young Americans - Station to Station)
3. 1976 to 1979: The Berlin Era (Low - Lodger)
4. 1980 to 1989: Bowie the 80's God (Scary Monsters - Never Let Me Down)
5. 1989 to 1991: Tin Machine
6. 1992 to 1999: Electronic/Industrial (Black Tie... - Earthling)
7. 1999 to present: Return to Form (Hours - Reality)

I'll have to say I prefer the pre-1969 era.

My favorite Bowie albums are:
1. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars-1972
2. Hunky Dory-1971
3. Low-1977
4. Heroes-1977
5. Station to Station-1976
6. Scary Monsters-1980
7. Aladdin Sane-1973
8. Young Americans-1975
9. Let's Dance-1983
10. Diamond Dogs-1974

So I guess that would mean my favorite Bowie eras would be:
1. 1969 to 1973: Folk to glam rock (A Man of Words... - Ziggy Stardust)
2. 1976 to 1979: The Berlin Era (Low - Lodger)
3. 1974 to 1976: Soul, R&B, and The Thin White Duke (Young Americans - Station to Station)
4. 1980 to 1989: Bowie the 80's God (Scary Monsters - Never Let Me Down)

It's really close between the folk/glam years and the berlin years. I don't think I can choose between those two.

I really like his "newest" albums, Heathen and Reality, however there is nothing better than his Ziggy years...

The Berlin era definitely! 😄 But I would stretch it to include Station to Station and Scary Monsters. While it does something entirely different, I find Scary Monsters to have more in common with the three Berlin albums than with Bowie's 80's albums. Station to Station is really a transitional album, but it has the same tense coldness that is so present on the Berlin albums.

But basically everything from Hunky Dory to Scary Monsters is fabulous. Outside is outstanding too I think. Heathen is not bad either.

Berlin but Ziggy Stardst is my favorite of his stuff. One thing i never understand about Bowie is why people like diamond dogs? Not only is there nothing new or innovative but also just as regular pop songs there's little enjoyment there.
