I don't do it on purpose. My brain seems to be wired to hear older music as being better. Some of the music that is considered to be better nowadays is usually like indie rock or something and my ears completely reject it. Any ideas here?

Too accustomed to a certain type of music I guess... I think as long as you're open minded, you'll learn to appreciate other kinds of music too...
Personally, I had trouble with hip hop. But I just needed to hear some album that was hip hop, but still enough in the realm of what I was accustomed to before, and then the rest followed.

I never had a problem with being a "dadrocker," "rockist," etc, until I came here and realized how limited my taste was. I wouldn't call myself close-minded because I don't consciously reject music because of it's era, my ears just ask me to press the skip button. Most of the time it's the vocals too, the music itself I can dig.

Find a group which has that "modern" sound you don't dislike too badly and force yourself to listen to one of their albums a couple of times a week for a few weeks. Sometimes, when you don't like a whole genre, it's just a matter of breaking the ice and get acquainted enough with its musical specific characteristics to be able to enjoy it.

I had a similar problem to yours a few years ago - I couldn't listen to most noisy or dissonant stuff. I popped The Residents and Parable of Arable Land a few days a week until I had become so used to it I didn't "mind" it anymore and could appreciate it as I do any other style. Now I love it.

Try Grizzly Bear, Tame Impala or Dirty Projectors. They are all good "modern" rock groups but really different between them, so you might find your starting point on loving recent music!
