I think it would be cool for a person to be given the role of the head of a genre, in case a member was keen to really look into that genre a bit more:
For example
Hip-Hop:Lethalnezzle
Country: Naples
Blues: sheep21
Jazz; Guigs

No I like idea, although I'm not sure how you could determine who's the biggest fan of a certain genre.

I don't see the need for it. People know who to trust when it comes to the genres they like. I'm already going to take a hip hop recommendation from lethal a lot more seriously than from say, Naples. I don't see how naming him king of hip hop will help anyone, apart from boosting his ego 
We all know who the unofficial experts are, the fact that you've just been able to name them proves it.

I'm against the idea. It'd be too difficult to decide who gets assigned to what genre, too difficult to decide what genres to include even, it would give said "Kings" an unnecessary sense of entitlement, it would perhaps make certain users uncomfortable at being seen to represent one genre above all others, and it would burden those users with the (possibly unwanted) responsibility of acting as some kind of guidance councillor to others. If people want recommendations or advice about genres they would like to explore deeper then there is nothing stopping them from starting a thread or sending a PM. I understand the intentions of this concept were good, but I think it's impractical and would cause more problems than it solves. Thanks for the mention though.
