So, since I have decided to be more active in these forum thingamajigs, I have to decided to create this...For one sole purpose! To see what you guys think of my favorite artist, who does not seem to be known by a lot of you guys. Vashti Bunyan! Her music is folk, and pretty damn pastoral folk, but it is really beautiful. And she is the best lyricist too! I'm actually too lazy to tell you all about her, so I just nicked this from Wikipedia.
"Jennifer Vashti Bunyan[2] (born 1945 in Newcastle[3]) is an English singer-songwriter. In 1970, Bunyan released her first album, Just Another Diamond Day. The album sold very few copies, and Bunyan, discouraged, abandoned her musical career. By 2000, her album had acquired a cult following; it was re-released and Bunyan recorded more songs, initiating the second phase of her musical career after a gap of thirty years."
Her first name was Jennifer? This changes everything! This makes me think of the awesome drums and bass in Jennifer by Faust. XD
Anyways, yeah, go listen to Just Another Diamond Day, and then Lookaftering. XD Tell me what you think! I think fans of Joanna Newsom (she is awesome...) would probably like Vashti. Are topics made solely to make aware a little known artist allowed? I am scared of breaking rules. XD I don't usually care about breaking rules, but...You guys scare me. ๐
Oh man, I haven't listened to Just Another Diamond Day in a while. It's so wonderfully simple, sweet and... quaint. I'm listening now and I think it ages really well.
It's the only Vashti Bunyan album I've heard, though. I'll listen to Lookaftering next.
Patman, I'm pretty sure Joanna Newsom actually played harp on a few songs on Lookaftering!
The Poe, yes, exactly!
Lookaftering is surprisingly brilliant! You would think that it wouldn't compare to JADD, but it really does. It is perhaps a bit more melancholy.
Shit! I should've said that Lookaftering sounded "the same but different" to Just Another Diamond Day, and I would've been referencing one of the songs. XD
I also love the cover art to JADD. Reflects the sound, the feels, the mindset and all just right. Just felt I needed to add that thought.
It does.
JADD also served to make me feel even more certain that I plan on going to college at Oxford, then living a quiet life in the English countryside writing.
