I'm strongly opposed to including compilations in my chart, but this is pretty great as far as compilations go.

Isn't this one of the top-selling albums of all time? Not a statement of value - just trivia.

That said - Marley is fantastic. It's a shame this is his highest ranked album, given that it's a compilation.

A perfect example of taking something genuinely exciting and sincere and polishing and packaging it into something tame for a wider audience. The strength of the songs is inarguable, but that Westernized late-career production that Marley chose to utilise following the departure of Tosh and Livingstone ruins most of this for me.

"Three Little Birds" is one of the most uplifting songs I've ever heard, but "Redemption Song" is the real gem here, it's stunning, despite the christian message. I'm not a fan of reggae, so as an album, it gets too tiresome for me.

Never got why compilations seem to be a no-go but this one gets off scot-free.

I think the main reason is that Bob Marley's really popular but he never put out any really huge albums. Exodus is pretty big, but I guess not good enough for a lot of Marley fans.

totally agree. I have some early Wailers on vinyl, and the earlier versions of some of these songs have such a magical warmth that the later versions lack.

lol at the idea that any real "Marley fans" would choose this ahead of any of his other albums. That's laughable.
