I don't like The Doors much at all, but he remains, in my opinion, the greatest keyboardist in modern music.
Perhaps not through technical ability, but the way he was able to add so much with so little.
He was, musically the heart of the band. In all those late sixties years, when in rock music the guitar was the most important instrument, his music as a keyboardist was very innovative and inspiring.
One of the greatest keyboard sounds of all-time. The Doors were one of the bands I grew up with, the soundtrack to many a stoned night spent with friends. RIP.

Rest is peace, Ray.
Well said. Ray's playing style was highly influential and he is a key figure in the history of rock. RIP.
I too am not a Doors fan, but I certainly recognized the quality of his keyboard playing. The guy in The Animals have had more of an influence on me, but regardless, it's sad that he succumbed to cancer. Now go forth and indulge in albums by The Doors, ye Doors fans. ๐
