Well, I haven't listened to them in a while (exception being rose hill drive who's song "sneak out" is a song I play often in guitar hero) so apologies if it's not exactly like them, but close enough and they're still all good Hard rock type stuff:

I'd like to suggest listening to The Louvin Brothers and Everly Brothers, even if they're not all that obscure. that's where those harmonies were perfected. for a more obscure songwriter pick, try Gene Clark (originally of The Byrds)
They're not all that obscure, but you should check out Big Star. They're a great example of the 70s Power pop sort of stuff that you seem to like, and generally a fantastic band.
