One of my favorite sixties bands is a proto-metal cover band named Vanilla Fudge. They're best known for their ten-minute cover of "Eleanor Rigby", which is really awesome.
Applerill, have you heard their album "Renaissance"? It has mostly original songs, and some of them are really really good!
