To begin, I'd like to share a personal experience:
Someone I know swears she hates the radio. Absolutely refuses to ever listen to it. But you know what, that's fine, especially if you don't like the music that plays.
But here's where the problem lies. I ask her what her favorite bands are. They are:
Coldplay
Taylor Swift
Muse
Mumford & Sons
The Fray
Now, I have nothing against any of these groups/singers... but, it's kind of what plays on the radio. All the time.
So my question is, how do you explain to someone who thinks they're a hipster that they most definitely are not?
Prove your dominance over her by playing obscure bands like Grizzly Bear, Vampire Weekend and Beach House and using words like "derivative" and "mainstream" to snidely put down her own tastes. Also be very vague in your criticisms and use big words that while not making any sense, will confuse her into thinking your music is superior. Refute every single comment she makes on how good her music is even if you agree; you dont want to sound weak do you? Lastly remind her of the venues that her bands play in and how they hold more than 11 people lol.
Ouch. A pretend hipster. That might be worse than a real hipster.
Is there actually such a thing as a real hipster? _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold
