I like the album. Definitely would say it's Phoenix's best.

I like it. I'd say it's clearly more than medium-quality, but I don't find it breathtaking either. Just a nice album to listen to. Also, it's a musical consensus for most people, for some reason. When you're with friends (who haven't the same tastes as you or aren't even interested in music) and you don't know what to listen to, you put Phoenix and everybody will be like "yeah, Phoenix, so great". I've never really understood why, I mean, it's like they're everyone's favorite band... Maybe because they are French and people like when famous music comes from their own country. It's probably that, because here, people go crazy about Breakbot, C2C, Daft Punk (obviously) and Sébastien Tellier.

Ever since the release of It's Never Been Like That I've held to the conclusion that Phoenix is possibly the greatest pop band alive. They've mastered melody and hooks, while consistently pushing themselves further ahead. They've got technical ability that goes beyond pop music, but rather than indulge themselves in masturbatory experimentation, they've gone straight to the musical G-spot. I prefer It's Never Been Like That very slightly, but Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a masterful pop record. And "Love Like A Sunset" is a ballsy move for a pop band, but pays off tremendously
