Som Sakrifis - Mohammad
Year: 2013
Country:

Track list:

1. Sakrifis
2. Lapli
3. Liberig Min

Sorry for being late, it's national day over here and I've been pretty drunk for the last 48 hours. Anyhow, this is Greek trio Mohammad's latest album. It's acoustic drone, pretty interesting if you like that sort of thing. If you don't this is a pretty good way to give it a chance. Check my dropbox for easy access, the link's on my chart.

Enjoy!

Getting it now. Acoustic drone sounds interesting.

I am still unsure what to release on the public when my turn comes. Aussie? Ambient? Post-Punk?

Right up my ally, love this choice. The acoustic drone makes for some very eerie and awesome moments. My favorite ALC suggestion to date. 80/100

Almost like stretched out Dirty Three in parts. Lapli was the pick of the three tracks on offer. Short enough to keep my interest, but still maybe a track too short.

Ranked inbetween Who's Masquerade's Love & Death and Melvins' Everybody Loves Sausages.

ALC RANKING:

1. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here
2. Som Sakrifis
3. Sub-Verses
4=. Other Life
4=. Infestissumam
6=. The Future Is Cancelled
6=. Partygoing

Wow, really interesting. Different than what I was expecting, some really cool moments on this album, I'm really digging it.

Best track for me is definitely "Liberig Min".

85/100

I found this album to be a very refreshing break from the streak of rock albums. I agree with Harkan that it could use another track, but then again, the fact that it never wore out its welcome was part of the relief in listening. I love the sound of deep dark bowed upright bass, and Som Sakrifis was full of it. My one critique is probably just my critique of drone in general, in that I wish there was just a bit more variation.

Since others here are ranking them...

ALC RANKING:

1. Sub-Verses
2. Som Sakrifis
3. Partygoing
4=. Infestissumam
5=. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here
6=. Other Life
7=. The Future Is Cancelled

I liked it. Also, I agree with Meccalecca's critique of it and drone in general in that he wishes there was more variation.

it didnt engage me as much as some other similar albums have (some people commented on "variation" i think they have a point), but when it was over i wanted to listen to it again.

I agree that this one was very refreshing. It all sounds so cool and I'm glad to have listened to it, but I feel weird comparing this to the other albums we've listened to. Metal Machine Music was in the back of my mind.

I don't regret listening to it, it was a decent experience. It sort of reminded me of the moment in a film or tv show when the killer or whatever is out of the room, it was really heavy, slow, and all underlined with a sense of dread, I guess. That's all I can say about it really, it's not my thing, but I'm glad I gave it a spin. Won't give it a rating, but i'll likely return to it before some of the other picks so far.
