I couldn't help my self, I had to submit a country album. Jason Isbell is best know for is role in the southern rock band, Drive-By Truckers, but he as put out some great stuff since departing. I think this album is as good as anything he's done before. I'm interested in seeing what the response to the album will be. Hope ya'll enjoy. Have a good week.
There are a lot of "entertainers" today who can pack a stadium and relate to the "everyman" that doesnt make them good, and it certainly doesnt make it country. Tom Petty recently called it "bad rock with a fiddle." There are plenty of artists who are unique and inspired, but because the country genre as been so grossly bastardized, they have been forced to outlet through other channels (folk, americana, etc). I still call it country because its just easier then trying to decipher what else it should be.
Yes, a lot of entertainers/albums/songs that are masquerading as country are just bad, and worthy of the criticism, but there are still a lot of great country artist out there. I think Isbell is one of them.
For more of them, check my charts.
Sorry for the shameless plug ๐

I thought it was pretty good. Most of the ballads are really good, especially "New South Wales", and the rest of it was alright. Nothing mind-blowing, but definitely not a bad album. _________________ Progressive Rock
I've been meaning to listen to this one for a while, mainly because I love drive by truckers, especially decoration day, which is what I believe Jason first appeared on with the group, I'll listen to it sometime today and give thoughts later.

Listened to it and really loved it! Also, I re listened to Decoration day and boy is it still amazing.
Haven't listened to a country album for a while. Well, seldomly do I have the urge. Since it was not too countrified, I found some great moments in this. I think the first half was stronger than the last. Good choice!
