I mean Bernstein himself is great (compared to Boulez or Rattle) but when you compare his rendition of Mahler (which is much praised) with Karajan, to feel the difference and meticulousness and surging emotion here you don't really need musically trained ear. Bernstein is also simply bad on Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2:
While Reiner just nails it with stressing the presence of Piano more which is in line with the spirit of Rachmaninoff's wandering piano pieces; just listen to this one (at least the opening movement) because of Cliburn who passed away recently:
