OK, I overreacted at the whole wording thing in the "What album" thread. But still, it confuses me that there are people out there who will get on to people for saying a word like "insuperior" when there are very long words out there that sound completely stupid, like "deconstitutionalized." I could easily get onto people for saying "ain't" but almost no one does.

What are your thoughts on the word "insuperior"? Should it be a word? Do you care? Or are you too much of a "proper English fanatic to allow it?

Insuperior ain't appearing in my dictionary.
Inferior is probably the word you should be using instead of it (Correct that if I'm wrong someone).

Does anyone remember Bush's "misunderestimate." Or better yet, Sarah Palin's "refudiate." lol

Just because you think it sounds like a word doesn't mean it's a word. "Inferior", or "not superior" are what you're looking for.

In his very sad defense, I guess I DID ask for this thread to be made. I take part responsibility for it.

Two things. First, thank you reminding me of "inferior".

Second, this is far from an apology thread, Jack. Did I say I was sorry? No. Jason wanted a thread, so I gave him one. It's my fault for completely forgetting about "inferior", but you should still shut up every now and then if it's even possible for you to think about shutting up.

Ok, so, here's why insuperior is stupid:

"Listenable" denotes a certain quality on a sort of imaginary scale. It can mean anything - something can be "very listenable", "not very listenable", or even "unlistenable". It is a quality with no attached value and thus a value can be added with a prefix such as "un-".

"Superior" denotes that something is better than something else. It is a quality with an assigned value. Therefore to call something "insuperior" is incredibly redundant, it's like saying "ungood" instead of "bad". Superior means greater than. Inferior means less than.

Fake ass words like "insuperior" and "irregardless" are not words for no reason, they're not words because they are redundancies.
